Tired of Fire... here's an idea...
So, i love my ele. I have no problems with it. My current build is a mind blast variant i use for both pve&pvp.
Mindblast
Fireball
Rotgarts
Immolate
Glyph of Sacrifice.
Meteor Shower.
Aura of Rest.
Fire Attune.
Now, call it a newb build if you want... but its not. I could take better, more powerful skills... BUT... The first 4 are fast(ish)recharge times. They dont do horrendous damage, but the foe is always burning, and i am getting a constant stream of energy and hp. And never have to wait for skills to recharge.
My attributes are:
Fire 15.
Energy Storage 13. And nothing else matters.
ANYWAY... The reason for this post is... im looking to shake things up a bit. Im thinking of.. well, how about i show you...
Attributes: (E/RT)
Energy Storage: 13
Channelling Magic: 14-15.
Skills:
Spirit Rift
Ancestors Rage
Channelled Strike
Cruel Was Daoshen
Destructive Was Glaive (E)
Destruction
Gaze of Fury
Aura of Restoration.
Heres how I see it working/Usage:
Cast AoR.
Cast Destruction (spirit)
Cast/Carry Cruel was Daoshen.
Cast Spirit Rift.
Cast Ancestors Rage. (1/4th second)
-Ancestors Rage Hits-(110 Dmg)
Cast Channeled Strike. (2 second) (130 Dmg)
-Spirit Rift Hits- (135 dmg)
Drop Cruel. (100dmg)
Cast/Carry Glaive. (3/4th second)
Cast Gaze of Fury on Destruction. (2 seconds) (80-150 dmg)
Drop Glaive. (100dmg)
I dont like the 2 second wait for gaze of fury... But whatever.
Criticisms? I see a few problems with it... But all in all i like the direction its headed.

*You can't use runes from your secondary profession. Channeling Magic will be limited at 12.
*If you want to play a Rit, why not make a Rit? Otherwise, it's a fairly straightforward damage spam build. Keep in mind it's mostly lightning damage so it'll be affected by armor, just like your fire spells are.

Yea its a bad idea to try to be a Rit on Ele primary. If you're really tired of fire, try earth. Or you can actually prot and heal using [[Ether Renewal] for energy.

Earth is nice on a hero in HM... Unsteady Ground, and Churning Earth are AoE kds in HM as they get kd'd whenever they move,m or attack and being AI they attack a lot. Eruption makes a nice anti damage as their melee are blinded and then you can run wards to support your team.

The sad thing is, rit as ele primary is basically better than ele.

Have you ever actually played a rit?
The only things I know an Ele can do better than the primary counterpart is Prot, and Orders spam.

I mean an elementalist with a rit skill bar, is generally better than an elementalist with an elementalist bar. That goes even for an armor-based build like DwG. (You see teams forming of EVERY profession running that stupid skill...)
Although as a side point, spawning power is pretty pointless outside of defensive spirits and GDW, and any caster class can run most rit bars at 95% effectiveness.

You're right, Fox. Unfortunately everything out-damages elementalists in Hard Mode, so you might aswell just learn to bond/infuse if you want your ele to be contributing enough in tough areas.

Actually, I think everyone is a little too hasty to criticize and ele/rit build using channeling as the main. An ele with full energy att points and channeling att points using SoS and spirits gift if nothing more than to heal whole party of conditions like burning from RI or Immolation or whatever works well. Now the best build to use for an ele/rit I've actually used on my ele is strictly a spirit spammer build. Trying to use the spirit rift and damaging item spells will deplete your energy fast and leave you useless. Now pair the Spirit spamming with the Asura skill that helps you cast and recharge faster (cant remember what its called right now) and an ele can be very effective at spirit spamming. I wouldnt try communing or restoration unless you have some kind of energy replenishing skill better than aura of restoration. Plus if you plan to do an ele/rit build, use a channeling staff or energy staff. But an ele/monk build or ele/para or ele/me would be better if you're just looking for a change.
